Privacy Policy
Last updated 21 September 2026
HouseShift is a mobile app for roommates sharing household supplies and chores. It is operated by Viktor Blais, a sole proprietor based in British Columbia, Canada ("we", "us").
This policy explains what the app collects, why, who else can see it, and how to get it deleted. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. We collect the least we can: your email, your first name, and what you record about your household. We do not sell anything, we do not advertise, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. You can delete your account and its personal data from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To identify your account and let you sign back in. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive whatever address that service gives us — including a private relay address, if you chose one. |
| Display name | Usually a first name. Shown to the other members of your household so they know whose turn it is. |
| Profile photo (optional) | Only if you choose one. Visible to your household. You can remove it at any time. |
| Household content | The supplies and chores you add, whose turn each one is on, when things were done, and any prices you choose to enter. This is the app's actual purpose. |
| Notification token | A device identifier issued by Apple, used only to deliver the notifications you switched on. Deleted when you sign out or turn notifications off. |
| Subscription status | Whether the household has an active subscription, and when it renews. Supplied by Apple through RevenueCat. |
What we do not collect
- Payment details. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card number, and we cannot charge you directly.
- Location. The app does not request or use it.
- Contacts, calendar, or microphone. Never requested.
- Advertising or cross-app tracking identifiers. There is no advertising in HouseShift and no tracking SDKs.
- Camera roll access beyond what you pick. If you choose a profile photo, we receive only that image.
Who can see your information
Your household
HouseShift is a shared app, so the other members of your household can see your display name, your profile photo, whose turn things are on, what you have recorded as done or restocked, and any prices you entered. That is the point of the product — but it is worth stating plainly before you enter anything you would rather they not see.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the app. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage. Data is stored on servers in the United States.
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your device. Receives the notification text and your device token.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status on top of Apple's billing.
- Apple — handles all payments, and sign-in if you use Sign in with Apple.
- Google — only if you choose Sign in with Google.
Data leaving Canada. Our providers store and process data in the United States and other countries. While it is there, it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and authorities in those countries under their laws. Using HouseShift means accepting that your information is handled outside Canada.
Nobody else
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We would disclose information if we were legally required to, or to protect someone's safety — and we would tell you unless we were prohibited from doing so.
How long we keep it
Your account information is kept while your account exists. Household content is kept while the household exists.
When you delete your account, your login, email and profile photo are removed permanently. What stays is the record of what happened in households where other people remain: entries like "Dave restocked the toilet paper" keep your first name, because they are also a record of what the household spent and whose turn came next. Removing them would rewrite other people's history.
If you were the only member of a household, that household and all of its contents are deleted with your account.
Backups are kept by our database provider for up to 30 days, after which deleted data ages out of them too.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law — PIPEDA, and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act — you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask for a copy of it
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate
- Withdraw consent and have your account deleted
- Complain about how we have handled your information
Deleting your account
You do not need to ask us. In the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account. The screen shows exactly what will happen before anything is deleted. It cannot be undone.
If you would rather we did it, email viktor.blais.tech@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will action it within 30 days.
Complaints
If we have not resolved something to your satisfaction, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Children
HouseShift is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers, and access to household data is restricted at the database level so you can only reach households you are a member of. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we collect little enough that there is not much to lose.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
