Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Viktor Blais, a sole proprietor based in British Columbia, Canada ("we", "us"), covering your use of the HouseShift mobile app and this website.

By using HouseShift, you agree to them. If you do not, do not use it.

1. Who can use HouseShift

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission.

You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your sign-in secure.

2. What HouseShift is

HouseShift helps a group of people track shared supplies and chores, and shows who has spent what. It is a record-keeping tool.

It does not move money. The "settle up" feature calculates who would owe whom if everyone paid an equal share. It is a suggestion based on what people entered. We do not process payments between roommates, we do not hold funds, and we are not party to any arrangement you make with the people you live with.

Figures in the app are only as accurate as what people type in. We do not verify prices, purchases, or whether a chore was actually done.

3. Subscriptions and payment

How it works

HouseShift is sold as a subscription covering an entire household. One person — the billing owner — subscribes, and every other member of that household uses the app at no extra cost.

Plans are $4.99 USD per month or $34.99 USD per year. New households get a 14-day free trial. We send a reminder two days before the first payment.

Billing

All purchases are handled by Apple through your App Store account. We never see your payment details. Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and Apple charges the renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.

Cancelling

Cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. We cannot cancel a subscription for you — only Apple can.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases.

If payment fails

If a payment fails, the household keeps full access for three days while Apple retries. After that the household becomes read-only: everyone can still see their turns, their history and their spending, but nothing new can be recorded until the subscription is renewed or another member takes over paying. Your data is not deleted.

Changing the billing owner

The billing owner can hand that role to another member in the app. Apple does not allow a subscription to move between accounts, so the new owner starts their own and the previous owner cancels theirs.

Price changes

We may change prices. If we do, we will tell you in the app before it affects you, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

4. Your content

What you add to HouseShift — supplies, chores, prices, photos — remains yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: storing it, displaying it to the other members of your household, and backing it up.

Do not upload anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to share. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

5. Shared households

HouseShift is shared by design. Other members of your household can see your name, your photo, what you record, and prices you enter. Think of anything you add as visible to the people you live with, because it is.

We are not responsible for how the people in your household treat each other or what they do with information you put in the app. Disputes between roommates are between roommates.

6. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. Your login and personal details are removed permanently.

Records of what you did in households where other people remain keep your first name, because they are also a record of what the household spent and whose turn came next. Households where you were the only member are deleted entirely. Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — that has to be done through Apple.

7. Availability

We will try to keep HouseShift running, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service. If we shut it down permanently, we will give reasonable notice and a way to export your household's data.

8. Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used unlawfully, or is used in a way that harms other people or the service. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first.

9. Disclaimer and liability

HouseShift is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost money arising from your use of the app. Our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or twenty Canadian dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits. Where that is the case, they apply to you only to the extent permitted, and nothing here removes rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

10. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app. Apple has no obligation to provide support for HouseShift. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will update the date above and tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use HouseShift after that means you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia, unless consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim somewhere else.
