Common questions

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then HouseShift, then Cancel. Apple handles all billing, so this cannot be done from inside HouseShift and we cannot cancel it for you.

You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to issue refunds for App Store purchases.

Does everyone in the house have to pay?

No. One person subscribes and everyone else joins free, however many roommates there are. If the person paying moves out, anyone else can take over — in Settings → Billing owner.

I am not getting notifications

Check two places. In HouseShift, open Settings → Notifications and make sure the switches you want are on. Then in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → HouseShift, make sure Allow Notifications is on — if it was ever declined, only that screen can turn it back on.

HouseShift only notifies the person whose turn something is. If a chore is not yours, you will not hear about it unless you turned on the household updates, which are off by default.

Why did the rotation not move when I did a chore?

Because it was not your turn. If you cover for someone, the rotation deliberately stays where it is — it is still their turn next time, and helping out does not cost you your place in line. If it was your own turn, the rotation moves on.

Someone entered the wrong price

Whoever entered it can fix it. In Activity, tap your own purchase and correct the amount, or remove it. You can only edit your own — only the person who paid knows what they paid.

What happens when someone moves out?

Open their name in Settings → Members and choose Move out. You can let HouseShift spread their things across whoever is staying, or hand each item to a specific person. Nothing is deleted — their past restocks and chores stay in Activity.

A chore that has no schedule

When adding a chore, set How often to When needed. It stays quiet until somebody taps "Needs doing", then it lands on whoever is next. Useful for things like taking out the compost, where the timing is not predictable.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. The screen shows exactly what will happen before anything is deleted, and it cannot be undone.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — do that through Apple first.

The household went read-only

That happens when a subscription payment has failed and three days have passed. Everything is still there and still readable; nothing new can be recorded until the payment goes through or someone else takes over the subscription. No data is lost.
